When she’s not wowing crowds with her heartfelt hits, hanging with Keith Urban or being bedazzled by Beyoncé (“She walked right by me and my boyfriend at the Grammys, and I almost broke his hand off I was squeezing so hard!”), Miranda Lambert, 24, can be found at her Oklahoma farm. “It’s my paradise,” the Texas-born singer, who dates fellow country star Blake Shelton, tells OK!. “I don’t have to wear makeup. I don’t have to look cute. I can just be who I am.”
Here, she opens up about being a role model, accepting her appearance and the price she paid for having a hangover.
Is it true you refuse to wear skimpy outfits on stage?
Yeah, I try to be the best example I can be for young girls. I don’t wear skimpy clothes because I don’t have the six-pack abs to show off. Onstage, I don’t want to be thinking about my outfit — I want to think about what I’m doing, so I’ll try to dress as comfortably as possible.
How do you feel about your body?
I’ve come to the realization that no matter how skinny I am, I’ll never be a size two. It’s just not my body. I’ve accepted the way I look, and if I feel good, that’s all I care about. I just want to be happy and healthy.
You have a farm, right?
Yeah, I’ve got pigs, donkeys and a miniature horse. I need the farm to balance out the craziness of my career. When I go there, I’m just a regular girl, not Miranda Lambert.
How have you managed to stay out of the tabloids?
I’m just not into the party scene. I like to have my privacy with my boyfriend and my family. Anyway, there’s not really a party scene in the middle-of-nowhere, Oklahoma.
What does your hometown think of your success?
When I come home to Lindale [Texas] from the road, they’re glad to see me, but they don’t treat me any differently. I love that town. It keeps me grounded.
