Video Week: Brad Paisley’s ‘Letter to Me’
April 11, 2008 by Heather
Brad Paisley’s “Letter to Me” is the third single release from his 2007 album 5th Gear. It spent four weeks at number one on Billboard Hot Country Songs charts this past February.
Brad has said he was inspired to write the song after his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, was asked to contribute to a book entitled “What I Know Now: Letters to My Younger Self.” He liked the idea and took the better part of a week to write it as he kept writing a new letter nearly every day before settling on the final draft.
He references many of his own experiences and aspects of his childhood in the song, including a reference to “Tomlinson and Eighth,” two streets in his hometown of Glen Dale, West Virginia. “Mrs. Brinkman,” another mention in the song, was a teacher at John Marshall High School in Glen Dale until last year.
