Patty Loveless to Release ‘Mountain Soul II’ in September
July 10, 2009 by Heather
I’m always happy to hear Patty Loveless news, especially when it involves a new album release!
Patty announced plans for the release of her follow-up to 2001’s “Mountain Soul,” explaining “It’s Appalachian, bluegrass and country combined. You should never try to duplicate something like ‘Mountain Soul.’ What you should do is enhance. So this is like a continuation.”
Joining Patty on the new album will be Vince Gill, bluegrass greats Del and Ronnie McCoury, Carl Jackson, Bryan Sutton, Mike Auldridge, Emmylou Harris, steel guitarist Al Perkins, and Loveless’ 16-year-old vocal discovery Sydni Perry.
The album will include the tracks:

Yes! Finally!! Patty Loveless is getting set to release a new CD – I’m so excited about this I can’t even tell you!
Even though it’s “only” a covers album, this 19th release from Patty (and the first in three years) promises to be as good as any of her other work. It’s titled “Sleepless Nights” and will hit stores September 9.
Husband Emory Gordy Jr. helped produce it and the release marks Patty’s first release with an indie label (one-month-old Saguaro Road Records) after twelve years at Epic Records.
The album will feature …read more
Flashback Friday: Mary Chapin Carpenter
The mega-wattage on this stage during Mary Chapin Carpenter’s live music video of “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her” from 1993 gives me the goosebumps!
Mary Chapin is joined onstage by Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Suzy Bogguss and Pam Tillis during a “Women of Country” special on CBS.
The song itself (which did not include the guest singers) was nominated for a Grammy and is said to have been inspired by a Geritol commercial from the 70’s wherein a man describes all of his wife’s accomplishments and ends with “My wife…I think I’ll keep her.” The song takes …read more
George Strait’s ‘Troubadour’
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of George Strait’s newest album, “Troubadour” yesterday. I almost squealed at the mailbox and put it in my CD player as soon as I got in the door, and I listened to it twice before I did anything else.
It’s fantastic! There are a couple of tracks that aren’t my favorites but overall I’d say it’s one of George’s best, which isn’t saying much because all of his past albums have been fantastic as well! My favorite track was “It Was Me,” an aww-inducing ballad about love at first sight. The upbeat …read more
