Yes! Finally!! Patty Loveless is getting set to release a new CD - I’m so excited about this I can’t even tell you!

Even though it’s “only” a covers album, this 19th release from Patty (and the first in three years) promises to be as good as any of her other work. It’s titled “Sleepless Nights” and will hit stores September 9.

Husband Emory Gordy Jr. helped produce it and the release marks Patty’s first release with an indie label (one-month-old Saguaro Road Records) after twelve years at Epic Records.

The album will feature 14 classic country hits that they pulled from a pool of nearly 500, and will include:

1. Why Baby Why
2. The Pain of Loving You
3. He Thinks I Still Care
3. Sleepless Nights
4. Crazy Arms
6. There Stands the Glass
7. That’s All It Took
8. Color of the Blues
9. I Forgot More Than You’ll Ever Know
10. Next In Line
11 Don’t Let Me Cross Over
12. Please Help Me I’m Falling
13. There Goes My Everything
14. Cold Cold Heart

About the album, Patty says, “Emory and I were talking over dinner about recapturing some of these moments from my youth because I want to inspire and remind people of what country is made of. It takes me back especially to my brother, Roger, and my sister, Dottie, and the music they loved. It’s a little bit of a history lesson, but I think once you hear the songs, the stories, you’re going to be drawn to it. People lived a little differently then, but at the same time, there’s a lot more in common (with today) than people would think.”

Flashback Friday: Mary Chapin Carpenter

June 20, 2008 by Heather

The mega-wattage on this stage during Mary Chapin Carpenter’s live music video of “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her” from 1993 gives me the goosebumps!

Mary Chapin is joined onstage by Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Suzy Bogguss and Pam Tillis during a “Women of Country” special on CBS.

The song itself (which did not include the guest singers) was nominated for a Grammy and is said to have been inspired by a Geritol commercial from the 70’s wherein a man describes all of his wife’s accomplishments and ends with “My wife…I think I’ll keep her.” The song takes a different turn halfway through, though, when the woman throws the husband out!

George Strait’s ‘Troubadour’

April 1, 2008 by Heather

troubadour

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of George Strait’s newest album, “Troubadour” yesterday. I almost squealed at the mailbox and put it in my CD player as soon as I got in the door, and I listened to it twice before I did anything else.

It’s fantastic! There are a couple of tracks that aren’t my favorites but overall I’d say it’s one of George’s best, which isn’t saying much because all of his past albums have been fantastic as well! My favorite track was “It Was Me,” an aww-inducing ballad about love at first sight. The upbeat “West Texas Town” also tops my list, as did “House With No Doors.” I also like “I Saw God Today,” which has been on the radio a lot the last few weeks as the first single.

Troubadour” hit stores today!
