Sugarland Releases ‘Joey’

June 30, 2009 by Heather

Sugarland will be releasing the fourth single from their current album, Love On The Inside, to radio.

Joey was written by the duo (Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, with Bill Anderson) and talks about a young life taken too soon in a preventable accident. The narrator contemplates how things would have been if she hadn’t let herself fall in love in the first place, and how she’ll say his name with her last breath.

It’s a sad song, but a little distracting with the upbeat tempo. Jennifer pulls it off beautifully but it doesn’t stick with me like it would if it were slower and more moody. What do you think?

Sugarland Hosting 1-Hour Concert on ABC

June 22, 2009 by Heather

Sugarland will be hosting a one-hour special on ABC the night before their concert DVD, Live on the Inside, hits Wal-Mart shelves in August.

The duo will will preview a selection of the DVD footage during the special, which will air August 3rdd on ABC. To make the DVD, a Lexington, Kentucky concert was shot last fall using 20 different cameras. The DVD will include these performances of “All I Want To Do,” “Baby Girl,” and “Settlin’,” plus “Genevieve” and covers of R.E.M.’s “The One I Love” and “Nightswimming.”

“We’ve always had a lot of confidence in our live shows because our fans keep telling us, ‘Wow, I had no idea,’” says Kristian Bush. “But there just aren’t enough days in the year to go and play for everybody. Jennifer [Nettles] and I figured, ‘Well, we might as well film it.’ Our music began as a word of mouth experience, and I think our shows are, too — so we’re just trying to get to as many people as we can so they can spread it as far as they can.”

The DVD will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart stores on August 4th.

Sugarland’s “It Happens”

March 14, 2009 by Heather

I love Sugarland’s newest single, “It Happens!”

It’s an upbeat song about, well, life happening, from the narrator getting to work late to a trip to “Wally World” that involves a car crash with her ex and his new girlfriend. In the end she’s able to laugh it all off using a clever twist with the song’s title: “Sssh… it happens.”

It’s the third single from “Love on the Inside” and was released just a couple of weeks ago. Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush co-wrote the song with Bobby Pinson, who also had a hand in the first two album singles.
